DEDICATED TO COURTNEY
After getting kicked out by her father
at seventeen, Amanda Litton has found something that
fuels her passion. Now a film student, rooming with
her friend Lyndsy Calhoun, she is looking for the
perfect subject for her documentary, when she notices
the local newspaper’s entertainment editor in footage
taken, while brainstorming for ideas.
Jonathan Kramer is responsible for Amanda’s
first stellar review in film. Amanda couldn‘t help but
admire him in so many ways.
Jonathan becomes her reluctant subject as he
writes a book about his sister Courtney, disappearing
years ago, which left him in a questionable state at
times, in the past. Hoping to get past it, the book
is a form of potential closure to Jon.
But someone doesn’t want the past re-opened in a
book or on film. Amanda determinedly sticks by Jon to
get the truth, as answers are revealed about Courtney
and her own past.
Check out an excerpt of Dedicated to Courtney below!
Jonathan reached his office and looked all over the desk and
everywhere for the folder with the notes. It was gone. He sat back and
slammed his fist against the desk. “Dammit!” he muttered, as he winced
and grabbed his hand. Great. That’s all he needed. A sprained wrist. He
was already running behind deadline, he had another two chapters he was
supposed to have done by next Monday.
He put his hands to his face. This was a nightmare. It was as if
everything in its’ power was trying to stop him from writing this book. A
few weeks ago, he’d come down with a sinus cold that left him feeling
knocked out with the medication, and last week his computer had crashed
leaving him helpless there as well.
He wasn’t about to let it all stop him though. Writing about Courtney’s
disappearance meant everything to him. Matt had Thomas for his best
friend. Courtney had been his. Oh yeah sure, he teased her worse than
Lyndsy, but he loved her tremendously. To this day he felt responsible for
what happened. Why? Courtney had begged him to go with her to walk
Ramey, and he hadn’t listened. He wanted to play the new video game
with Matt and Thomas that they’d gotten.
At fifteen, he was steadily tending to ignore her more and more. And
it had tormented him ever since. He’d had nightmares about it for years,
even went into therapy. That’s where he was given the idea to write about
it. After all, it had been an actual story, over ten years ago. With no leads,
the police were forced to give up, and Courtney was assumed dead.
Jonathan just hoped that after writing this, his mental state would be
alieved.
A knock at the door made him jump, and he moved the hands from his
face to see Thomas standing there….with his file folder.
“Hey Jonathan….How’s it going man?”
